Tithing your Time

I haven't seen or spent real quality time with my cousins in a really long time. Almost two years.
This past two weeks, I have been blessed with seeing BOTH of my closest cousins: Clayton and Charles :)

Charles is 4 years older, recently married to an amazing woman, and is one of the most Godly men I know.
Clayton is only a year older, so we're a lot closer in age, and going through a lot of similar life experiences- especially in relationships and with God. Again, another Godly man.

I am so thankful that they are related to me :) And their timing with coming back into my life couldn't have been more perfectly set.

The other night I was on the phone with Clayton. He is a big sports person and is actually on a mens basketball league where he leads devotionals every week. So during our phone conversation, he shared with me next weeks devotion, which has been heavy on his heart.

Basically it went like this:
"Ok, so.. the Bible says that we should tithe 10% of our paycheck. But that got me thinking... how much time to we give to God in a week? If we tithe 10% of our time a week.. how much more could we grow?"

So this got me thinking-
168 hours in a week- 10% would be 16.8 hours
24 hours in a day- 10% would be 2.4 hours
60 mins in an hour- 10% is 6 mins an hour.

its as simple as 6 MINUTES AN HOUR!
I mean, people spend 6 mins flipping through tv, or just sitting around doing nothing..
I could waste hours watching hulu, or movies.

but its not that hard to give 2.4 hours everyday. Even if I spaced it out.
Maybe an hour and 10 mins in the morning and at night?

It really isn't that difficult.

Looking back on my past, the most I "gave God" time wise would be attending chapel or church.
And even in that I wasn't really into it, or really devoting that time to growing in God. Just being there to be there. Get my chapel credits for college, please my parents by attending church... All routine.

Now, as I am working on starting a goal this for the summer, I am trying to implement the habit of spending at least 2.4 hours a day with God. Whether that is through reading, prayer, listening to sermons, or just worshiping him. The more time I spend focusing on God, the more I can grow, and the better and more beautiful our relationship could be! :)

Step one.
